Immune-Boosting Orange Julius

I've been on a serious citrus kick the last few weeks, I can't stop eating grapefruit! My school is a veritable petri-dish of sickness as of late, so my body is probably craving the Vitamin-C packed citrus to ward off the many plagues in which I spend my day enveloped.

While I love just eating the fruit, this juice (which really tastes just like an Orange Julius, without all the sugar) is a super delicious and easy way to change things up - no juicer required. Additionally, the turmeric and cinnamon kick up the flavor and the health-boosting properites: turmeric is anti-inflammatory, as well as mood and brain-boosting; cinnamon, in addition to being a warming winter-spice (a good balance for the warm-weather citrus fruit) and blood-sugar stabilizing, also fights viruses and infections!  Keep it coming. 

Ingredients

Low glycemic gluten free dairy paleo smoothie and juice for  immune boosting, stress management, how to eat healthy, health tips for women, how to manage stress, how to manage anxiety, help for anxiety attacks, how to reduce stress, or if you're feeling burnout.
  • 1 large grapefruit or 2-3 oranges, peeled and sectioned; slice off any pith remaining to reduce bitterness (grapefruit, I'm looking at you especially!)
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk or milk of choice (I used Califia toasted coconut almond)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • pinch black pepper 
  • small pinch sea salt
  • stevia, raw honey, or a tsp of bee pollen to taste if additional sweetness desired (blend and taste first) *if you feel sickness coming on, raw honey adds an extra antimicrobial blast 
  • optional: 1-2 TB collagen powder for a protein boost

Method

Blend all ingredients fully in a blender.  (I currently only have an immersion blender, but it does the trick!) Taste and adjust sweetness if necessary. Sprinkle a little extra cinnamon on top and enjoy! Make sure to "chew" your juice to fully absorb all the nutritents! (Digestion starts in your mouth :)
